Council rejects daycare center
By Beth Warmerdam bwarmerdam@selmaenterprise.com
After seven years of legal battles and controversy, the issue of the proposed daycare for McCall Avenue has finally been put to rest.
At least for now.
On Monday, the City Council voted 3-2 to reverse the Planning Commission's decision to approve a Conditional Use Permit for an 84-child daycare and preschool to be located at 3035 McCall Ave.
"We're obviously disappointed," applicant Ken Herron said after the meeting.
He and his wife, Dominique, must now wait a mandatory one year if they want to apply for another Conditional Use Permit.
For many of the residents in the area, the council's decision has provided relief.
"The neighbors are happy," nearby resident Michael Barron said. "But in another year we might have the same problem."
